Volunteer Training

A 2 Generation volunteer approach is highly effective for balancing perspectives with youth and their parents.
Because - this is way more than a job...it's a calling.
Our office offers life changing experiences for parents, youth, and families in an online setting weekdays. Now you can be apart of that journey with them as they wrestle through challenging situations from school attendance, foster care, family violence, substance abuse, and more.
Are you interested in sharpening your mediation skills and understanding families referred to our office for addressing harm? Our team only works to strengthen and restore family relationships (primarily with parents and teens/tweens) when county agencies are involved.
You are invited to join us as a volunteer mediator during our "online clinic hours" and walk alongside one family at a time while our staff provide close professional oversight. This safe forum allows you the opportunity to meet families where they are at and work on delicate matters to create plans and agreements that work for them and meet county "bottom lines".
If you have a family member (18+) that might be interested - this is how Lisa and Emma started, please let them know they can also fill out the volunteer interest form. They will be required to attend a 90 minute training and will participate as the "notetaker/participant" during sessions.
Training Steps for Facilitating or Supporting
Family Sessions
Our focus is strengthening, restoring, and reconciling family relationships when harm has occurred.
We offer practical, safe, and non-anxious presences when families need it the most.
STEP 1
Invite a Family Member or Register as a Volunteer
Please extend invites to family members to join you in our online settings. See volunteer form below. Family members can live anywhere! Must be 18 yrs old, comfortable in Zoom, and will be required to complete/pass a background check.
STEP 2
Complete 90 minute volunteer training
All volunteers must complete our 90 minute training to understand how to engage in our online restorative environments. Mediator volunteers must register for a "ride-along experience" with a family referred to observe a staff facilitator.
STEP 3
Co-Lead with Staff
Next, staff will give you one referral to contact parent, introduce services, and co-facilitate a family session with a staff. We provide templates and coach along the way.
STEP 4
Faciliate Family Session with Staff Support
You'll facilitate the next session and have staff present to support and coach you. Debrief with staff after. Turn in notes for staff to draft the plan/agreement.
Family member volunteers can join at this point and support alongside the facilitator.
